Michael Celio handles white collar criminal cases, complex civil litigation, and enforcement actions brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Michael is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried more than a dozen cases to verdict in state and federal court. Michael has significant expertise in the defense of securities cases, both civil and criminal. He recently tried one of the first cases in the nation involving allegations of stock-options "backdating." More generally, he has represented numerous individuals facing charges brought by the S.E.C. or the Department of Justice. He has published several articles on these topics.

Michael also represents corporations and individuals in complex civil litigation. His recent civil cases have involved antitrust actions, shareholder derivative suits, allegations relating to the theft of trade secrets, and global violations of a contract restricting the sale of sensitive, high tech equipment. His representative clients include Topcon Positioning Systems, Electronic Arts and Xilinx.

Michael graduated cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1998. He graduated from Stanford University, with honors and distinction in 1994, where he was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa in 1993. He received the Firestone Award for Outstanding Research upon graduation. In 1994, Michael was awarded a Chevening Scholarship by the government of the United Kingdom and received a Master's degree from the London School of Economics in 1995.

Michael joined the firm in 2001 and became a partner in 2006. Prior to joining the firm, Michael served as law clerk to the Honorable Ronald Lee Gilman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is admitted to all California State and Federal Courts, as well as the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Michael lives in Palo Alto with his wife and two small children.
