Ajay Krishnan joined Keker & Van Nest in 2005. His practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, with substantial experience in intellectual property litigation. He has tried a number of cases to verdict, including three as first chair. Ajay also has a substantial pro bono practice, and has litigated numerous civil rights cases in state and federal court.
Ajay's recent patent cases include representing a large national cable company in multiple cases involving numerous aspects of cable television technology, representing a company that develops cardiovascular devices in a high-profile case involving an eight-figure damages claim, and representing a major cell phone manufacturer in a large multi-patent case that covers a wide variety of cell phone technology. Ajay has also represented a large internet company in two separate, high profile trademark disputes concerning online advertising. Outside of the intellectual property area, Ajay has defended a securities research firm against defamation and unfair business practices claims by a large public company on which it reported, and has litigated breach of contract and fraud claims arising out of a Bank's employment agreement with its former CEO. In 2008, Ajay was part of a trial team that obtained a defense verdict on behalf of a large national law firm after a six-week jury trial in a legal malpractice case.
Ajay graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2002, and magna cum laude from Rice University with a degree in electrical and computer engineering in 1999. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Marsha Berzon on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Prior to joining Keker, Ajay was an attorney at the ACLU of Northern California; he currently serves on its Board.
